There are rumours floating around that season 2 has got a green light...

Quote:
Rumors are swirling of a quick green light for a second season of Game Of Thrones. We reported earlier that certain crew members were already being secured for a second season. Now we are hearing word that a second season will go into production very soon after season one wraps.
This sounds similar to info we have from writer Bryan Cogman, who mentioned that the plan is for them to immediately begin scripting and planning for season two. The word is this is being done whether they ultimately get a green light or not, to allow for quick transition into filming if (when?) the green light comes. But it seems more and more likely that an early green light may be forthcoming. At the very least, an “amber light” situation could be developing, where HBO has given the green light to the production crew but will not announce it officially until the show begins airing.
But why such a quick turnaround? We had heard a while ago that HBO wanted to get an earlier start to production for season two. The assumption was so they would have time to film a 12-episode season to allow for a proper adaptation of the slightly-longer A Clash of Kings. Starting a few weeks earlier this time around, say mid June instead of late July, would allow for that. But now it seems they want to start much earlier than would be necessary if the only reason was to have time to film two additional episodes. But why? I have a theory.
Big Love will be airing their final season starting this Jan. Game Of Thrones and Treme, two of HBO’s biggest dramas, will be airing concurrently in the spring. Not an ideal situation. My speculation is that HBO is lining up season two (and subsequent seasons, hopefully) of Game Of Thrones to replace Big Love on their schedule. This would mean that HBO’s four biggest dramas would air year-round, True Blood (Summer), Boardwalk Empire (Fall), Game Of Thrones (Winter), and Treme (Spring). A great incentive for HBO subscribers to stay subscribed all year long.
