Not as easy as it sounds but if forced, I'd do the six months. Definitely requires a strong focus to keep your eye on the prize.
Besides, the every other day thing would totally be messing with my head. I had a split schedule once (my two weekly days off were NOT together!) and found that one day off was not sufficient for me to recharge.
The big prize (six months) would serve as a stronger motivator for me.
