There is a particular Mexican restaurant where we live that does this, and our "usual" waiter there is the best waiter in town, period. Therefore, whenever we eat there, I always discreetly put the tip into his hand and he slides it into his pocket. The tip, not my hand.
I've learned a lot in a hurry from this thread. It's making me rethink some things.
