One of Our Adminstrators) recently created this subforum so some of our resident members could possibly take the auto-generated news and subscribed articles that appear there, (they are being imported from RSS feeds, I believe, and posted as is) and create new thread topics for discussions as they see fit. You can pluck an interesting article you find from there, expand upon it, ask a few questions, and post it in Genereal Discussion to see if anyone bites.
It's an easy general news aggregator here at the TFP, is the basic way to describe it.
