We have a Sunday afternoon tradition in my house: we clip kids' nails. For the last few years, that's meant that we go to Youtube and watch Cailou, snowplow trains or the Blue Angels. Since I think that Cailou sounds really whiney, I've been trying to find another cartoon to get the kids to watch while I try to shear off the little daggers at the ends of their fingers.
A couple of weeks ago I had the bright idea of trying some of the old Saturday morning cartoons, especially since both boys are really getting into superheros lately. The first one I thought of was The Superfriends, my absolute favorite at age 7. This is what I found:

My image of how great Saturday morning cartoons were has been completely shattered, and I kind of feel like I got duped for part of my childhood. Sort of like Ralphie in A Christmas Story: "It's a crummy commercial!"
So how have you come face to face with a childhood mythos and how did you react?
