I think the first album I ever bought with my own money was Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction, lawn mowing money...it had just come out and I think it still had the original cover on it. My Mom completely lost her shit when I put it on the turn table later that afternoon, that's how we judged if an album was good or not.
