Yeah my top 5 favs are always changing...I'm sure I'll look back at this list and think "WTF?" but I think I have a few that have stood the test of time and probably will always be favorites.
In alphabetical order because thats how its listed on the old itunes;
Dark Was the Night (Cold Was the Ground) - Blind Willie Johnson
Haunting...hey it wound up on the Voyager Golden Record, if its good enough for aliens its good enough for me.
I Burn Today - Frank Black
It just speaks to me, simple yet very effective.
Neo Terra - Freddie Hubbard
First jazz piece I played with a real combo, it always brings back great memories.
One Down, One Up - John Coltrane
Has John Coltrane lost his mind, stumbled onto some great drugs or tapped into some vien of genius few of us can understand...probably a little bit of each.
Mothers Only Son - Yonder Mountain String Band
What more could you ask for? Vengeful sherrifs, death, regret and sweet country love with the sheriffs wife...c'mon thats bluegrass gold.
