To the OP poster: It's not possible for our eyes to focus on two separate points.
Our two eyes are seeing the same image but from two different angles,
that's what allows our brains to map a third dimension.

There's no physical reason it can't happen, its just extremely difficult and disorienting since your brain tries to shove the two images together. I've done it before by a few various physical tricks and mostly you wind up with either a wierd composite image or shifting between one "real" image and one being flickery and insubstantial (like a hologram almost).
