Palahniuk's work doesn't tell you what to believe; it asks you to question what you believe based on societal conventions.

Fight Club in particular is a sardonic exploration of hypermasculinity (which, in a sense, makes your gay comments rather ironic), feminism, commercialism/consumerism, self-actualization, existentialism, and class struggles.

The book works to break down the norms of social order in terms of gender roles, class roles, and the problem of personal worth in a materialistic society. If anything, it works to undo if not dismantle and destroy what you would call "a lie" and "the machinery behind the curtain."
