I don't think so either. Look at what passes for news broadcasts in the U.S.A.
It has many addicted to the 'doom & gloom'--- 'they're comin' to get you'. The fear inducing adrenaline rush, is a bankable commodity, and its legal & cheap to produce.
Even our so called 'nature programing' is full of apocalyptic what if scenarios.
