The Answer
As I step over the bodies, the night is approaching.
I look at the faces, horror in their eyes.
Blood runs down the dirty street below.
I stop for a moment to ponder my plight.
Why am I living while all others gone?
A sound from afar means I'm not alone.
I walk to the noise and find another life.
We glance for a moment, no words come between.
Grasping the hand we walk from this village,
A new start today, we head for the hills.
Thankful for life? Or wanting the same,
as everything we know, lies smoking and gone.
As she looks at me, she asks in a whisper,
help me she says, my answer is there.
