Its meaning changes over time. I think much of it started in the heydays of science fiction and the idea of computing machines with all kinds of push-buttons.



Whenever I think of "The Red Button" in a wide sense, I think of the launching of nuclear warheads.

In a practical sense? Yeah, I think of emergency stops in heavy machinery.
