June 19, 1999 - Oh, Discordia! While taking a walk, horror author Stephen King was struck by a van piloted by a distracted Bryan Smith. King's extensive injuries (broken leg, broken hip, lacerated scalp and collapsed lung) remanded him to a hospital bed for three weeks.
King would rewrite this scene in Book VII of The Dark Tower series as part of The Crimson King's plot to eliminate him from Roland's story, and he would also use this event in the opening scene of his TV series Kingdom Hospital.
Bryan Smith would later die in his sleep on Stephen King's birthday.
