Actually, noodle, the first day of menstruation is day 1 of a menstrual cycle. Otherwise it would be too difficult (at least for me) when to decide menstruation is over; it takes a while to wind down (I won't go into gory details). Depending on birth control method, a woman's menses may be shorter or longer.
