It's my opinion that ipods are overpriced and too restrictive (I hate iTunes) and a smart phone is a nice toy that I don't need -- there's no real advantage to one that's compelling enough to justify the exorbitant monthly cost. Find me a smart phone that I can use for $40 per month all-in, and maybe I'll consider it.

It's ok, I'm just teasing - I don't have an mp3 player either, after all (and if I did, it wouldn't be an iPod for the same reason you state). I like smartphones because they allow me to have a calendar, task list, and other similar things all on one device. The internet access is useful for easily accessible information, not wasting time. I realize I'm in the minority, but I have a hard time understanding people who use
smartphones primarily to waste time. Since most do, though, I understand why it's easy to write off smartphones as toys.
