Rent on Broadway was... awesome. There's really no other word for it. I saw most of the original cast, except Angel and Benjamin (really upset I didn't get to see Taye Diggs!). The show was amazing, though. Definitely one of my top five... maybe the best as far as just performances go. (I've seen about 50 Broadway shows.)
There is a 'Rent - Filmed Live on Broadway' DVD, which is good. It's none of the original cast, but some of them come out at the end to sing Seasons of Love. I can't remember if Idina was on the DVD or not.
As far as a showcase for Idina, though, Wicked took the cake. Kristen Chenowith was awesome, too, but Idina totally stole the show, and not just because she was the lead.
