Only reading the first sentence of the thread-start post, I'm gonna go ahead with what I've picked up from Art History class and my own interest in this topic.
All creativity's meaning is defined by both creator and observer/participant, if it is seen/made as art, then art it is! So then if it is made with the sole intention of producing a directly hormonal reaction in its participants, then we have a name for it, pornography.
“All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act. This becomes even more obvious when posterity gives its final verdict and sometimes rehabilitates forgotten artists.” -Marcel Duchamp (French non-artist, painter and tinkerer. Died 1968)
