My brain is kicking over... You might want to read this gem -
Horality. I looks at the convergence of comedy and horror. I remember reading it or a book by the same author when I was in film school.
The master template for this genre is Raimi's The Evil Dead, but time has not been kind to some of the first horror films. They are quite comical now. Have a look at Herchell Gordon Lewis's Blood Feast (what many say is the first slasher film). There is a lot of history in it but also comedy (of the unintentional kind).
I am also remembering a film called
Dellamorte Dellamore, starring Rupert Everett as a guy who works in a cemetary. It was pretty decent.
And don't forget Peter Jackson's
Meet the Feebles (the Muppets meet Horror) or
Braindead, the scene where the hero straps a lawn mower to his chest, blades out, to mow down some pesky zombies is priceless.
