I use the recipe for Streusel I from the Joy of Cooking to make crisps. Easy and flexible.
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
2/3 c. finely chopped walnuts or pecans
2/3 c. sugar or packed brown sugar (or a combination)
5 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
Combine all and use like Charlatan's topping above.
