Mixed... hate may have been a strong word for your posts but others seem to have this knee-jerk reaction to Spielberg.
I agree that he has little to say but that's entirely besides the point. In the world of mainstream, Hollywood film making he is successful for a reason. While I think his best film making years are behind him, he is a master of filmic storytelling. His earlier films didn't aspire to be anything more that what they were... mainstream film. It wasn't until he was a success that he sought to make films that had "meaning" (i.e Shindler's List, etc.).
Ultimately, my point is that he is not overrated but rather accurately rated.
