with all the talk of bad role models in sport, people only really hold the candle to sporting figures when they get into strife and do badly in life..tiger woods, marion jones, tim montgomery, ben johnson, mike tyson, eric cantona to name just a few
so id like to see positive sporting role models get recognised for their contributions to life and not just sport.
so name your greatest moment by an athlete outside of sport
i know i posted this a while back on TFP, but this remains by far my greatest moment by an athlete outside of sport. One of the few heart touching stories that managed to get a tear out of me. Bernard, an Executioner in the ring, but a gentleman out of it.

Inspirational Story - Bernard Hopkins & Shaun Negler
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i Thought about posting this in Sport, but this story isnt about sport. Its essentially about life. so i thought i'd post it here. Its the story of a young kid who idolized Bernard Hopkins, one of the greatest pound for pound boxers in the history of the sport, and the young aspiring boxers' battle with cancer and his will to survive to watch his idol fight one more time. This kid literally willed himself to live to watch the fight between Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik, and almost instantly passed on right after the fight which Bernard Hopkins incidentally won.
This is a touching story that would inspire the hardest nut there is out there. This is the story of a true fighter, a kid that fought bravely all the way.
i wanted to share this story, hoping that you would all be touched like i was. i sat there reading his story with tears welling in my eyes. An inspirational story, and unlikely friendship and a story that im likely to never forget.
Rest in Peace Shaun Negler.
share your inspirational stories!
