I understand that, I've had the click of death many times at home and at the office. I *always* try to mount it in a linux live boot before I would try freezing it. I've had to send a HD back to one of those recovery centers for a client. He had to shell out $1200 to get his family pictures back.
All I was just saying was, I try the easiest route first then work my way to the drastic measures.
