What's meant is that we no longer tolerate one-line responses or thread derailment. The staff is not "arbitrary and capricious". We do not edit or punish for political views. I think our rules are clear and easily understood.
That said, I'm entirely for raising the bar for the definition of an acceptable conversation around here. I've certainly been responsible for more than my fair share of some of the dumbing down here, but I'm trying to do better.

And Plan9, you know I like a joke as much (or more than) the next guy. Being funny won't ever go out of style here. Being funny to the point of derailing the conversation, though, that's something different.
