Setup (Media Center):
ASUS M3A78-EM
AMD Athlon X2 5000+
2x 1G sticks of DDR2 800 RAM (can't remember brand off hand)
400W PSU
2x 1TB HDD's
-------------------------
Problem:
For 1 thing BIOS isn't recognizing my DVD Drive...it shows something there but it doesn't give it an actual name it's a bunch of weird looking ASCII characters. It does this with 2 different DVD drives i've tried.
To install Windows 7 64bit on the hard drives i plugged the HDD in on my personal computer, and ran thru a clean install, after installing I loaded all the correct drivers for the media center.
Put the HDD back into the Media center and turned it on...it worked. Ran some updates and stuff. Restarted it about 3x's - everything okay.
Turned it off the next day and rebooted and it just sits and hangs on the "Starting Windows" Screen with the Windows icon Flashing.
Now - I really do enjoy watching the pretty colors flashing and everything but I can only take so much of that ... when I really intended on watching a movie.
-----------------------------------------------
Troubleshooting:
- Reset the CMOS
- Took everything out of the media center and put it all back together again making sure everything was connected correctly
- Tried booting to disc (doesn't work since it's not recognized correctly in BIOS)
- Took the HDD out and put it in my gaming computer
- boots up with no problem, no hangs or anything
- my gaming pc specs:
- A8S-X Mobo
- CPU - Athlon 64 x2 - can't remember the exact model atm
- 3Gigs of RAM
- 400W PSU
- nVidia geForce 8800 GT
- Also running Win7 -64bit
- put all the newest and greatest drivers on the drive
----------------------------------------------------
The part that gets me is that it did indeed work for 1 day. Then after I turned it off for a few hours and turned it back on it wouldn't come up again.
I usually don't have such a hard time with this stuff...but this thing is kicking my ass!
Please help if you can!
