Well, a very good friend of mine in college received a brand new VW bug from her boyfriend for her birthday. Although, that isn't a particularly good example because, as it turns out, their relationship was failing at the time and it was a passive aggressive attempt by him to gain leverage over her to keep her in the relationship.
She was a nicer person than I was, as soon as she realized what was going on she gave the car back and broke up with him, I would have kept the car.
Of course none of this applies to you, I'm just relaying the only story I'm familiar with.
