Let me know if anyone actually has accurate info on this because it has been bugging me and i don't have the first few books.

Richard and Kahlan didn't get married until the end of book 4. Richard was able to defeat Darkend Rahl using the wizards 1st rule. He made him think he was opening the correct box because the use of a confessor was being used to verify the words in the book of counted shadows. Richard had guessed(correctly) that his total love and acceptance of Kahlan, power and all, was the only way to overcome her power against him.
