Well, with a current industry-leading market capitalization of $131 billion, I don't think they're losing too badly...
The company that it is today didn't exist in the 70s. The "Toyota Way" didn't exist. The comparison is like night and day. We don't judge the new Ford Mustang against the Model T, now do we?
I understand you had a bad experience, but that was with a car manufactured 30 years ago and was 7 years old when you bought it.
(But now I'm beginning to wonder if that mechanic who bought it for $300 got another 10 years out of it....)
