Why would you buy a new car if you're a poor grad student?
My suggestion, buy an old honda accord, like a 93 - 98 model. You'll be able to get one for less than 4 grand, and if its in decent shape, it should last you for atleast 3 years.
You don't need a new car, get a used one and save some money...
However, if you really can afford to go buy a new car, you're not poor.
