In Atlantis especially, the characters felt one dimensional and cliche. Nothing ever really changed (plus space vampires are stupid ;P )

It's when the "pew pew" element is the driving raison d'etre for a show. First act, start a fire. Second act, battle fire. Third act, extinguish fire. Repeat every week. God knows I can watch my fair share of movies that are built on that principle, but for a TV show every episode is a rerun of the last, and it gets old.
