Wanted to shout out a quick ty to the op. This thread brought up memories of that above mentioned shelter and I went ahead and pulled it up online. Turns out there are quite a few volunteer opportunities available and I think I'd like to jump on that. Even if it's just for a couple hours a week, it'd be a real feel-good thing for me to consider taking part in
