There is no "process of elimination" for the Creationist. They were handed down something that is unchanging regardless of evidence or discovery of fact.

I agree with you. It's as if creationists have turned around the relationship between evidence and conclusion, so that the conclusion defines interpretation of any possibly relevant evidence. God exists and actively tests his faithful, and the existence of fossils proves this. It's confirmation bias at its most insidious. They've put the cart before the horse and have convinced themselves that the cart can pull the horse.
