It's easy. Door opens, cat thinks he's clever and goes outside... then realizes its cold / wet / full of creepy noises... and immediately meows at me and runs back indoors. He's "escaped" numerous times, but always hangs out just outside the door and meows for me to come rescue his panther-like ass.
He's such a pussy.
