So I got this win7 RC dvd, and wanted to drop it on my old 939 system. I crack open the case because I want to drop in my 7900GT. Oh wait, no 6-pin PCI-E power plug.
No problem. I go and get a beer. Sam Adams winter lager. Good shit, and very seasonal. Highly recommended.
I grab an old antec PSU that gave up the ghost years ago and cut one 6-pin PCI-E plug off internally. I cut them even, strip the insulation off the tips and take the PSU out of my old case. It's a dual 12v rail forton PSU. Old but in very good shape. I cut some leads out of it a while back because I had too many worthless leads laying around in the case, so now it was a matter of slapping one back on. I found the 12v leads I had shrink wrapped and stripped them on the ends. I did the same with my grounds. I only had 2 12v leads, so I chose to double up on one coming from the 3 12v lead 6-pin plug. No problem, this will carry plenty of juice for this card.
I tinned all my leads then soldered it all up, shrank my heatshrink over the bare metal and slapped it back in the case. Not one glitch. Perfect.
Now my old ass PSU is PCI-E compliant. Love it
Win7 aint bad either, but I wouldn't pay full price for it. Need to go find someone in college to get me one
