Not just synthetics... the story, as I understand it, is that some oils have a "friction modifier" additive which is good for most cases but it will let clutch material slip easier and fail faster. He is talking about a moped though which I am guessing has a centrifugal clutch which I THINK is dry. Plus he never said the manual specified anything other than 10W30.
