I'll tell you what I've learned over the years.
It's not your fight. Take that literally.
Instead of walking in the middle like you own the joint, just nudge your bud, say "It's not worth it man" and brace him a little in case he's not quite there yet. I've broken up a barfight or two and have never been in one through my own actions. If he wants to fight and you have his back, then it's your job to jump in if someone else wants to, or pull him away when it's over. Taking over is a jackass move, usually.
My wife likes my rough side. If some dude said something to her, she expects me to kick his ass. Silly high maintenance girl
It's obvious your girl isn't like that though. Consider that the next time you feel like pissing higher on someone else's tree for kicks
