While I see no problem with collecting data like this for public health research purposes, it seems to me that this is more an attempt to intimidate women into not getting abortions. The thing about collecting data for public health research: you don't want your data collection methods to bias your data. So if you really want to study SES data with respect to abortion, you'd gather data in a way that would encourage women to participate.
