I absolutely love it so far! I finally beat level 1-1 and it's a blast! Frustrating at times because one mistake and you're dead and lose all your souls. But if you can survive back to the spot you died you can get those souls back.
I haven't found the difficulty to be cheap in any way. It just takes skill and planning.
