Safe way to determine origin of a web address?

Okay, so I have this address that keeps popping up in my history of sites no matter how many times I delete it off my IE history of visited pages.
It comes back every time. I've googled it and find a ton of random sites that include this address. I don't want to post it up here because I don't know if it is spyware or whatnot, but I'm not sure how to find out what it is or where it came from without potentially getting redirected or infected. Any ideas? It contains the phrases with dot com attached:

friendconnect.gmodules
gadgetsgoogle
friendconnect
truthbomb.blogspot
opensocial

All of which I recognise as legit sites but there is tons of jargon inbetween and I don't know what to do. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks!
