Yeah it's strange to watch my posting habits in this thread over the years. i'm all over the place, shitting on the game, praising it, quitting, playing, etc..
I've changed my mind yet again and I guess it comes down to this:
I'm good at games, I've been gaming since my thumbs could move, and computer gaming since floppies were actually floppy.
I have done enough research on this game over the last 4/5 whatever years to write a small book i'm sure and that is what makes you better than those "fucking pugs" we all hate who just log in and go "uh lets go kill whats his face" and "is that a good item for me?" every time something drops. I just decided, the mechanics in this game are a mess at times
Lets face it, yes, they work. No, they don't please everyone, (a lot of single player "omg why am i not a superhero?" mentality creeps in to this game) and yes, they require a lot of knowledge from it's playerbase when tackling the end game challenges.
It's hard enough for me to find 4 other people to properly clear a 5 man instance without it feeling like I'm carrying the brunt of the weight, It's all great that I can top DPS, top heal, or tank entire pulls rotating cooldowns/avoidance and health restoration abilities while the healer is off spanking his pud in the corner or something.
it's equally frustrating having to deal with the immature community aspect of it when dealing with 25 man content, expecting people to understand the mechanic of each fight, and how their class is best applied for that encounter, on top of how to gear for a particular role.
me and my friends are a group of fairly dedicated gamers that like to push ourselves to the very end of our limits, I brought people in to this game and I've been in top progression guilds, My friends have gone to other guilds since I left, (10th and 32nd top guilds in the US) (used to be 3rd best on our server) I can't say we're all of the same skill level, I don't play what they play and they don't play what I play, all I can credit to myself is that I taught them how to properly research the answers to any questions they ever have.
They may ultimately be creating a more casual friendly game which in turn will increase the "skill" perception of it's playerbase I suppose, I just remember back in the day when you saw people in BWL or AQ40 loot, people would stop and shit themselves because you KNEW that those people had a clue.
Now, you can run 5 mans and deck yourself out fairly quick in t8, and eventually even t9 if you're persistent with dailies. It doesn't mean you're going to be any good though.
It's kinda odd, it used to be the gear was the reward, now the gear is the requirement to complete some of the challenges set forth.
I guess the point of this rambling is that it's pointless for me to waste my time in this game unless i'm doing what puts me at the very limit of my skillset, not the very limit of 24 other subpar skillsets.
It's like playing rock band with 3 retarded band members barely getting by on medium despite you acing the entire track on expert. Your rating at the end will be a mediocre 3 stars and the game will not reward you properly as a good player.
I just don't see myself jumping servers or factions at this point, I just feel like any sense of community I had has been completly dissolved by name changes, faction changes, race changes, server transfers, etc.. I don't know anyone despite being there for 5 years at this point.
One thing I liked about other MMO's I played is that your name meant something, your reputation meant something. Now? you have a license to be a complete dick to anyone and everyone. 10$ and nobody will know who you are.
all that said, the game is ok I guess, I don't even know if I'm going to pick up the xpac or keep playing though.
