anyone looking at this ?
Newegg.com - HTC Hero Black Unlocked Cell Phone International Version - Unlocked Cell Phones
I've been looking at this phone for a week or so now. I've never owned a cell phone and I still don't feel like I
need one. I sorta like not being available for total BS conversations and umm...texting and whatnot. there's been plenty of times I'd have liked to have the Internet in my pocket though.
another reason I haven't gotten a cell phone is I really haven't seen one that has enough
gadget apeal to really grab me. I like this one. I miss the flip out keyboard the G1 had, but only in concept caus I never had one of course
anyway, looking into the HTC Hero shown in the link I was disappointed to see Sprint is getting it BUT with a hardware makeover
which kinda screws over the entire gadget appeal aspect. so it seems now if I want one I must get an unlocked version and get a contract w/ TMo. or ATT...? which sorta screws up the price break you'd usually get on hardware.
anyway...what's my question ? heh, well is anyone using one ? it's out in the UK I gather, it's top rated on CNet UK. I'm in Seattle though
if anyone's been in this situation, where would be the best place to buy unlocked phones ? best I can see on ebay is about $50 less than New Egg here. I'm asking myself if the cool gadget aspect is worth the extra cash ? I mean I can afford it but I don't really like to piss away money just for the hell of it. my boss just got an iPhone and spent about a grand getting it set up...seems retarded to me cause it's pretty much for vanity's sake. I don't want an iPhone or any iProduct really.
would it be practical to use a phone like this for Internet radio or streaming podcasts for hours on end ? or as an MP3 player for long periods of time ? I see it takes a micro SD card but I don't see how big it is, 4gb ? 8gb ?
I work in a metal shop with vast amounts of fine metallic particulate in the air (err, metal dust) witch is abrasive and conductive of course. sorta worried about damage. everyone else has a cell phone at work but they are all cheap-o phones.
anyway, if you guys have some thoughts on this I'd appreciate it. thanks
