Went to see District 9 today and I was impressed. Extremely well done. I thought the transformation of the main character was very effective - someone mentioned his redemption, but I don't the point was for him to be redeemed at all. He was naive and gullible - he didn't do his job with ill intent. What he went through was an awakening.
The effects, of course, were remarkable. Most important, was the way they handled 'the message.' They managed to impart the message without being overbearing in the least.
Subtlety. That is the most charming and remarkable thing about this movie which could have so easily been heavy-handed. Which is funny considering how many people are, literally, blown to bits in it, lol.
I liked it very much. I give it a, uh...a 9.
