text is versatile and lightweight, if I exchange emails with you over and over your sig comes over and over. that's potentially 100s of times for absolutely no reason.
IMO sigs had their time, now I include it when it's appropriate. Otherwise, it's a waste of someone's inbox resources.

Not totally true.
My work email is set up to host the image and all we include in the sig is a pointer to the image on our server - if you have load images off you get rexxed, and if we exchange 4,000 emails, you still only have no images in your archive.
Minimum footprint, maximum impact, highly portable.
