As much as some of us would like you to come up to Toronto, I must say the west coast is a must-see. Go to Vancouver if you want to do some serious hiking and sightseeing. You will find many food options as well, considering it's a major port handling goods and culture from Asia and other areas of the world. It's generally more relaxed than Toronto as well. (And a bit more open and friendly.) You can keep your costs low by not doing the touristy things. Just go to some of the mountain trails and other natural landmarks around that area.
Be sure to visit Gastown and Stanley Park in the city itself.
