Common sense, but it helps if you pay the $$$ to have the stuff made by Americans or Brits or Frenchies, instead of dying slave children in Sri Lanka. I've experienced the shit-tasticness of Vietnamese-produced lingerie (Victoria's Secret occasionally produces some sultry-but-garbage stuff).
Ostentatious lingerie is obviously not a once-a-week type thing... it's for those special "fuck me on the armrest of the couch while your roommate is in the shower" moments. In my experience, of course. I wish I could settle down so I could get some use outta the stuff. Lingerie is not for people that are just dating, at least not for guys. If the girl has it already? Cool. But I'm not buying a single g-string until we're sharing keys and coffee cups.
But, yeah, I would rather be accosted by a girl in a cute bra and panties once a week than a girl in something crazy-hot once a month.

Here's another good thread question:
When do you feel comfortable buying your partner lingerie? Immediately? After commitment steps like "we're an item" and moving in? Marriage?
