I've got to plead ignorance here - I didn't recognize a single capitalized name in the O.P., except for HBO.
Further research indicates that it will be a series, with each book in the series comprising one season's episodes.
Like I said, I'm not familiar with the series, but if HBO is considering devoting seven years of hour-long programming to it, I can't see a reason not to at least buy a copy of A Game of Thrones.
Don't everyone get their hopes up, though - it's tough to envision HBO seeing this all the way through - let's not forget how they abandoned Deadwood, Rome, and John From Cincinatti, and replaced them with clunkers like Eastbound and Down and Hung.
HBO has a lot of work ahead of them to regain the reputation they had a few years ago.
