POA, the physical addiction will get better in a matter of days, and totally disappear within a week or so. I finally managed to quit the very first time I tried the nicotine patches - it really helps when you're weaned off that poison gradually.
As for the mental addiction, - I always compared the urges to a game of whack-a-mole. You never knew when or where they'd pop up, but if you knocked them out right away, they'd fall back in their hole and leave you alone till the next time.
It's been years since I've had even a remote interest in having a cigarette, so know that every day is easier than the day before.
