Well, look, it's not really that you have to respect people's opinion, so much. It's that you have to respect
people. People think very strange things sometimes. Doesn't make them Bad People. Just means they are thinking from a framework that is different from yours, and has them view reality in a way that's different from your view.
It's fair to say that Terrorism as we now know it was defined on 9/11. Incidents prior to that were, to America at large, "no big deal". 9/11 and our response to it put terrorism right on the front burner and kept it there.
