I built myself a kneetop PC tray to keep airflow under my laptop and allow me to use a real mouse.
Took a sheet of 5mm MDF (offcut from a DIY project) that's about 80cm x 35cm.
Covered it all over with black duct tape.
Made corners out of PVC electrical tape (green/yellow earthing stripes as you ask).
Screwed a 60cm strip of 2x1 off centre (to the left) near the back edge to support the back feet of the PC.
Mouse mat to the right of the PC.
Keeps it cool, and means all the cables, USB hub etc are tucked away underneath.
