I like to hear the creative spin of nearly all jokes, so I can tolerate listening to yours. But, of course, there are some that are bawdy or loathsome just for the sake of standing out and/or shock factor. They disgrace the routine.
It's like that one time I asked my a group of friends, "Whats the main cause of paedophilia?" and they just stared at me blankly. Needless to say they didn't have much reaction to the punchline of "sexy children" as I had originally hoped.
It's different planes when it comes to mirthful storytellers; you have to know two things to have success: 1) you need to be able to spin a yarn and build the eventual suspenseful conclusion to the tale, & 2) you need to know your audience.
