This might not help you get your stuff back, but you can contact apple and they'll lock that ipod the next time it connects to itunes. Your cell service can probably do the same thing, hell they might even be able to trace it. I'd give it a shot.
(should clarify before I'm told I'm wrong, Apple can't lock Ipods, all they can really do it prevent it from using iTunes. You'll probably have to do some slick talking to get them to do that.)
